Moondah Brook 2013 Verdelho

Variety: Verdelho
Region/G.I.: Greater Perth, Swan District
Vintage: 2013
Colour: Pale lime
Alcohol: 13.50%
Bouquet: Gun flint in an otherwise closed nose
Flavour: Some residual sugar gives this weight but there is a surprisingly quick finish. Juicy. Lemon and grapefruit. Ok but not great.
Points: 3+6+9+6+6=80

A rather ordinary wine and untypical of Verdelho I've tasted. Tasted on 20 March on WA Roadtrip.

Later on a visit to the Swan District, I discovered that the district prides itself on Shiraz, Verdelho and Chardonnay just at the Hunter Valley does in NSW. I tasted good Chardonnay, Malbec and Petit Verdot with the last being my tip for WA's oldest wine region

Frog Belly Wines 2012 Semillon

Variety: Semillon
Region/G.I.: South West Australia
Vintage: 2012
Colour: Pale yellow
Alcohol: 12.50%
Bouquet: Just bitten Granny Smith apple in the nose
Flavour: Very dry, apple and lemon boiled lollies (sweets) with a hint of sourness.
Points: 85(3+7+11+7+7+50)

A refreshing wine with lovely balance for our pre-dinner (bbq) drink on 20 March on our WA Roadtrip

Shingleback 2013 Red Knot Chardonnay

Variety: Chardonnay
Region/G.I.: Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Vintage: 2013
Colour: Yellow
Alcohol: 12.50%
Bouquet: Overripe tones (almost spoiling peach skins) with secondary, lemon hints
Flavour: Good lemon flavours with a nice length. A touch of sourness is there but I would not automatically guess this as Chardonnay.
Points: 3+6+9+6+6=80
Nice body but not necessarily recognisable as Chardonnay (From 17 March on WA Roadtrip)

22 March 2015

Brown Brothers 2013 Crouchen Riesling

Varieties: Crouchen 62% and Riesling 38%
Region/G.I.: Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley
Vintage: 2013
Closure: Screwcap
Alcohol: 10.0%
Colour: Lime yellow
Bouquet: Lemon ice-block and the smallest hint of ripe pineapple. There is definitely some sweetness in the nose.

Flavour: A sweeter style with lemon and lime (again, like the nose, similar to an ice-block flavoured that way), nice length thanks to residual sugar and a slight tingle on the tongue to finish
Points: 84 (3+6+11+7+7+50)
Notes: Its nose is its weakest point. My roadtrip buddy really liked this thanks to its sweetness. I was unaware that South Africa and Australia have grown Crouchen

Bouquet: Citrus with some greasy aromas

Flavour: Green pear valley with nice acidity and a tingle on the tongue to finish (likely as it's so young)
Points: 82 (3+6+10+6.5+6.5+50)
Notes: A quaffer for our road trip

Bellbrae 2013 Lonboard Pinot Noir

Well, my new Pinots haven't lasted long. Same as a couple of weeks ago. Will have to grab some from the cellar at my parents' place.
