A quality Riesling for not much money. Notes from last June remain applicable with possibly an addition of some lemon syrup in the nose as well.

Tempus Two 2007 Zenith Semillon

Variety: Semillon
Region/G.I.: Hunter Valley
Vintage: 2007
Closure: Screwcap
Alcohol: ?12.5%
Colour: Grey yellow

Bouquet: Petroleum with secondary aromas of lemon
Flavour: Delicate in the mouth suggesting age. Even and light. Slightly smokey characters with some lemon/lime flavours and an almost tingle at the end.
Points: 88 (3+8+11+8+8+50)
Notes: For me the clear winner although the group went for the 2010 Brokenwood. Great poise. Highly enjoyable wine

Brokenwood Wines 2007 Maxwell Vineyard Semillon

Variety: Semillon
Region/G.I.: Hunter Valley
Vintage: 2007
Closure: Screwcap
Alcohol: 11.5%
Colour: Grey yellow

Bouquet: Metallic and wet stone aromas. Some lime.
Flavour: Stone/possibly gun-shot, and lemon in equal measure. Generally restrained
Points: 83 (3+6+10+7+7+50)
Notes: The weakest of the four that we tasted, for me and the group as a whole

Peter Lehamann Wines 2008 Margaret Semillon

Variety: Semillon
Region/G.I.: Barossa Valley
Vintage: 2008
Closure: Screwcap
Alcohol: ?13.0%
Colour: Bright yellow

Bouquet: Restrained nose on opening and slowly opened to scents of lemon soothers
Flavour: Some pleasant sourness in this wine which showed restrained, distant lemon flavours.
Points: 85 (3+7+11+7+7+50)
Notes: A restrained wine which I brought so we could have a Barossan in the mix. It was ranked 3rd of our 4. Note it costs about $30~600Kc and the other bottles offered better value for money

Brokenwood Wines 2010 Semillon

Variety: Semillon
Region/G.I.: Hunter Valley
Vintage: 2010
Closure: Screwcap
Alcohol: 11.0%
Colour: Grey yellow
Bouquet: Lemon and slightly greasy, wet grass
Flavour: A hint of aged tone but overall crisp, lemon flavours and long finish show a well balanced and still relatively young wine.
Points: 86 (3+7+11+7.5+7.5+50)
Notes: This was the winner in a very tight contest of four wines. I rated it second of the four.
