Variety: Pinot NoirRegion/G.I.: TasmaniaVintage: 2010Colour: Dark brown with a hint of brown
Alcohol: ?Bouquet: Again, very mild wet cow and some regular cherry in the nose.
Flavour: Rich flavour of plum and almost liquorice flavours as well lovely, flakey tannins. Excellent balance. Elegant. Complex. Rich without being over done.
Points: (3+7+13+8+8+50) 89Notes: The winner for me of the tasting. About $40.
Variety: Pinot NoirRegion/G.I.: TasmaniaVintage: 2011Colour: Purple/brownAlcohol: ?Bouquet: Mild wet cow in the nose with hints of sour cherry
Flavour: Fantastic length stands out. Blueberry, sour cherry and even hints of black pepper in the profile which is well integrated. Much complexity to enjoy.
Points: (3+7+12+8+8+50) 88Notes: I thought this was second best of our tasting. It costs about $33 which is the mid range offering from this producer, whose basic level is called Pepik and high end is called Zdar.
Variety: Pinot NoirRegion: Marlborough, NZ
Vintage: 2012Colour: Cherry redAlcohol: ?Bouquet: Earthy nose of dry earth which has just received light rainFlavour: Not particularly complex. The mulberry fruit flavours were slightly gluggy but the tannins present compensated and brought balance. Full and gentle.
Points: (3+7+11+6+7+50) 84Notes: The third wine tasted. $19 and probably the cheapest wine of the selection of nine presented. Solid although slightly fruitier than I prefer.
Variety: Pinot NoirRegion/G.I.: Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Vintage: 2012Colour: Purple/dark brownAlcohol: ?Bouquet: Fresh cut twigs, younger brambly tones
Flavour: Ripe plums and hints of pepper and other heavy Indian spices. Good length and the existence of tannins. Tasty but not recognisable as a Pinot Noir if tasted blind
Points: (3+7+11+7+7+50) 84
Notes: Apparently $35 from the winery. As a whole it was a pleasant drink although not recognisable as Pinot Noir and it was our second in the tasting of nine so our taste buds were still sharp.
Variety: Pinot NoirRegion/G.I.: Port Phillip, Yarra ValleyVintage: 2012Colour: Purple/brownAlcohol: ?Bouquet: Rotting old wood posts and concentrated cherry
Flavour: Straight forward, sour cherry flavours but I found it a little sour
Points: (3+7+10+6+6+50) 82Notes: Apparently $36 from the winery. This was one of the weakest of the wines we tasted on the night.
Variety: Pinot Blanc
Region/G.I.: Big Rivers, Riverina
Vintage: 2012
Colour: Yellow/Apple Green
Alcohol: 13.0%
Bouquet: Honey dew melon with hints of lemon
Flavour: Very tasty. Medium bodied with fruit flavours according to the nose. It finishes nicely with some mineral/nice sourness.
Points: (3+7+11+7+7+50) 85
Notes: This is the best wine I've tasted from this producer and I've tried a few. See here, here, here. Pinot Blanc is not common here but this producer is trying many new varieties, and in this case is successful.
Variety: Pinot GrisRegion: Port Phillip, Mornington Peninsula
Vintage: 2011Colour: Steel grey/lime/greenAlcohol: 13.5%Bouquet: Strong aromas of furry peach skins and ripe apricotFlavour: Pear flavoured according to the nose with good mineral ending which is unusual for an Australian wine. Nice and even, this is medium bodied held together nicely with a long finish.Points: 86 (4+7+11+7+7+50)Notes: Part of the Pinot Gris collection I bought earlier this year. This is probably the pick of the bunch from a region which I find to be generally over-rated. $14.85 ~296 Kc.
