Hungerford Hill 2009 Chardonnay

Variety: Chardonnay
Region/G.I.: Southern NSW, Tumbarumba
Colour: Lime yellow
Alcohol: 13.5%
Bouquet: Lemon and lime aromas with restrained oak present
Flavour: Lovely fresh citrus flavours which carry for considerable time joined by some vanilla in the mid palate. No age tones and the wine tastes young. Its medium bodied is held together well with pleasing acidity.
Points: 84 (3+6+11+7+7+50)
Notes: Yikes - $25 (~500 kc). This was one of a few Chards tasted last night with a few friends. I'm concerned my lack of enthusiasm for the general flavour of Chardonnay may have resulted in overly harsh scoring.

Tisdall Winery 2010 St Erth Pinot Noir

Variety: Pinot Noir
Region/G.I.: Port Phillip, Geelong
Colour: Brick red
Alcohol: 13.0%
Bouquet: Earthy/funky with hints of strawberrys
Flavour: Although very light bodied, in the mid palate there are lovely brambly, forest floor flavours with some fruit, which is more towards stewed cherries (like you would get in a cake). Nice acidity.
Points: 86 (4+7+12+6+7+50)
Notes: Very nice to have a Pinot in an alternative to the dominant style here. $15.00 (~300Kc).

Tyrrell's Wine 2010 Reserve Semillon

Variety: Semillon
Region/G.I.: Hunter Valley, Hunter
Colour: Pale yellow
Alcohol: 10.5%
Bouquet: Lemon with a whiff of bottle age. Some pineapple aromas as well
Flavour: Lovely lemon with secondary gooseberry flavours and crisp acidity. Very nice length with the smallest of mineral touches left in the mouth. Balanced.
Points: 84 (2+6+12+7+7+50)
Notes: I tasted this almost a year ago here and have enjoyed more than last time. It is a very nice drop with the first signs of ageing apparent. Will be good to see this develop further. About $15.15 (~300Kc).

Black Springs Vineyard 2010 Verdelho

Variety: Verdelho
Region/G.I.: Central Ranges, Mudgee
Vintage: 2010
Alcohol: 13.0%
Colour: Pale yellow almost lime
Bouquet: Lovely juicy, fleshy tropical fruit. A combination of guava, pineapple and even mango
Flavour: Good citrus flavours and some minerality in the finish. A little flabby as it lacks acidity. A great bbq wine, particularly for grilled prawns.
Points: 82 (3+7+10+6+6+50)
Notes: At about $15.00 (~300 Kc) through the wine club, this is a reasonable, not to serious wine.

Evans & Tate 2009 Metricup Cabernet Sauvignon

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Region/G.I.: South West Australia, Margaret River
Vintage: 2009
Alcohol: 14.2%
Colour: Rich Purple
Bouquet: Blackcurrant, twigs (brambles)
Flavour: A rush of plum fruit is followed by extended, drying and still rather young tannins. Medium body.
Points: 83 (2+7+11+7+6+50)
Notes: With temperatures falling after days of rain and with Kangaroo for dinner, time for a Cabernet. This one at $15.82 (~320 Kc) has key elements of a good Cab. Tannins are still slightly young and the wine would benefit with age.

Pfeiffer 2010 Jennifer Jane Chardonnay

Variety: Chardonnay
Region/G.I.: North East Victoria, Rutherglen
Vintage: 2010
Alcohol: 13.0%
Colour: Pale Yellow
Bouquet: Tropical, namely guava with a hint of pineapple and creamy oak
Flavour: Lemon and lime flavours. Full bodied with great length. A touch of mineral towards the end.
Points: 81 [2+6+10+7+6+50]
Notes: At $15.44 (~310 kc) there is likely to be other Chards on the market with a better price/quality ration. Without doubt, this is a good wine.

Sam Miranda 2011 Cellar Door Release Sauvignon Blanc

Varieties: Sauvignon Blanc 85%, Savagnin, 10% and Petit Manseng 5%
Region/G.I.: North East Victoria, King Valley
Vintage: 2011
Alcohol: 12.0%
Bouquet: Subtle aromas of gooseberry, lemon and hints of late summer grass
Flavour: Quite a bit on the palate. The fruit flavours are consistent with nose and there is good acidity holding this together. The surprise is the length which is medium, rather than the short burst of fruit and acidity one expects from a Sav Blanc.
Points: 84 (3+6+11+7+7+50)
Notes: At $15.50 (~ 280 Kc), this is a well priced, slightly out of the ordinary Sav Blanc. I am keen to try more from this producer
