Variety: Sauvignon BlancRegion/G.I.: Although claiming to be Hunter Valley on the label, most likely this is actually from the little known Northern Slopes, New England Australia wine regionColour: Lime YellowAlcohol: 12.5%Bouquet: Asparagus and a little grassy. Flavour: Middle weight with very pleasant citric flavours and a hint of mineral extract. Pleasant complexity and nice length. Not showing ageing in nose or flavour profile.
Points: 85 (3+7+11+7+7+50)Notes: At $15 (~300 Kc) this is a tasty and interesting wine. Keen to try some of their reds which I have also been sent through the wine club
Variety: Sauvignon BlancRegion/G.I.: South AustraliaColour: Pale YellowAlcohol: 10.5%Bouquet: Gooseberry and tropical notesFlavour: Straightforward citrus flavour. Very light. Still crispy. Simple and fine.
Points: 81 (3+7+10+5+6+50)Notes: Apparently this was about $6.50 (~130 Kc). Fine as a mid week quaffer.
Variety: Pinot GrigioRegion/G.I.: Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide HillsColour: Pale YellowAlcohol: 12.0%Bouquet: Stewed pear and stewed appleFlavour: Straightforward flavour according to the nose. Very light and a little too sour for my liking.
Points: 77 (2+6+9+5+5+50)Notes: $14.61 (~292 Kc). Disappointing.
Variety: Chardonnay
Region/G.I.: Southern NSW, TumbarumbaColour: Lime yellowAlcohol: 13.5%Bouquet: Lemon and lime aromas with restrained oak presentFlavour: Lovely fresh citrus flavours which carry for considerable time joined by some vanilla in the mid palate. No age tones and the wine tastes young. Its medium bodied is held together well with pleasing acidity. Points: 84 (3+6+11+7+7+50)Notes: Yikes - $25 (~500 kc). This was one of a few Chards tasted last night with a few friends. I'm concerned my lack of enthusiasm for the general flavour of Chardonnay may have resulted in overly harsh scoring.
Variety: Pinot Noir
Region/G.I.: Port Phillip, Geelong
Colour: Brick red
Alcohol: 13.0%
Bouquet: Earthy/funky with hints of strawberrys
Flavour: Although very light bodied, in the mid palate there are lovely brambly, forest floor flavours with some fruit, which is more towards stewed cherries (like you would get in a cake). Nice acidity.
Points: 86 (4+7+12+6+7+50)
Notes: Very nice to have a Pinot in an alternative to the dominant style here. $15.00 (~300Kc).
Variety: SemillonRegion/G.I.: Hunter Valley, Hunter
Colour: Pale yellowAlcohol: 10.5%Bouquet: Lemon with a whiff of bottle age. Some pineapple aromas as wellFlavour: Lovely lemon with secondary gooseberry flavours and crisp acidity. Very nice length with the smallest of mineral touches left in the mouth. Balanced. Points: 84 (2+6+12+7+7+50)Notes: I tasted this almost a year ago here and have enjoyed more than last time. It is a very nice drop with the first signs of ageing apparent. Will be good to see this develop further. About $15.15 (~300Kc).
Variety: VerdelhoRegion/G.I.: Central Ranges, MudgeeVintage: 2010Alcohol: 13.0%Colour: Pale yellow almost limeBouquet: Lovely juicy, fleshy tropical fruit. A combination of guava, pineapple and even mangoFlavour: Good citrus flavours and some minerality in the finish. A little flabby as it lacks acidity. A great bbq wine, particularly for grilled prawns.Points: 82 (3+7+10+6+6+50)Notes: At about $15.00 (~300 Kc) through the wine club, this is a reasonable, not to serious wine.
